'Thodasa Pyaar' - Hindi Film Review

Andhracafe.com- THODA PYAAR THODA MAGIC: Starring: Rishi Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Ameesha Patel, Mahesh Thakur, Sharat Saxena. Direction: Kunal Kohli. Music: Shanker Ehsaan Roy.

From the blue skies hopes take wings.  God (Rishi Kapoor) in his whites decides on benevolence.  Orphans not only get abundance of wealth and platitudes but also adventure and reality shows.  Candy floss!!  Fun time!! The evolution of Yash Raaj!!  Far from it.  Far from it all.   Yash Chopra once showed he had a perfect reading of the pulse of the young.  Here the production house hopes to go further- from the young to the juvenile. Even kids would find the film taking their intelligence for granted.
Honestly viewed, the film does not have any pretensions.  However, you notice that the unpretentious tapers into the embarrassing.  Kunal Kohli simply misjudges the IQ of the contemporary kid.  The story is obviously designed to attract the young.  Difficult. The film has more ‘childish’ content that ‘child like’ content.
Ranbhir Talwar –Mr. Richie Rich ( Saif) is accused of killing a couple by rash and negligent driving.  The judge (Sarat Saxena) decides to hand over a unique sentence.  Instead of sending the wealthy but careless to jail he thinks the road to atonement is to rehabilitate the four children of the dead couple.  The kids Vashisht (Akshat Chopra) Iqbal (Rachit Sidama) Aditi (Shriya Sharma) and Avantika (Ayushi) are a brats club under protest.  They come with a history of having chased away sterner material and now believe that the mansion is a temporary sojourn.
God from the Heavens in white and a French beard decides to bestow his attention on the children and sends the mischievous and unpopular angel Gita (Rani) to help unite the hurt children with Mr. Money Bags. From here, the tale is supposed to be a fairy tale and does not even match our own Sonepari.  There is a thin dividing line between the super natural and the unnatural.  The line is wholly lost on Kunal Kohli and his storytellers.  Gita rides literally from the clouds in a pink cycle and dresses in front of the mansion. The special effects, which could have raised the level of the narration, reminds you of Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayana!! Nothing more needs be said.
The narration gets boring and predictable.  The kids who have accompanied you to the theatre prefer the Pop corn to the film.  They wonder what the adult world is doing with such a juvenile take on them and their mind set.  The road to reconciliation is bereft of any interest or touching novelty.  A few sparks from the kids saves the moment.
The Hum-Tum team simply works out of memory and there is nothing that they add to the dull script.  As the Pari Rani Mukherjee is so one-dimensional.  The script offers her little.  She returns the compliment.  Saif as the industrialist sleepwalks.  The kids add some humour.  Amisha Patel makes a hasty retreat form the madhouse script with a cryptic exit note.  Thanks for small mercies.  Just the other day Big Bhai Chopra came up with a tale of the ghost.  This time the younger brother comes up with the angel.  Both haunt without class or calibre.  With these kind of movies, you simply cannot blame Aditya for the road YRF is taking-except for permitting its making.  Under strict scrutiny, this screenplay should not have made it to the studios. The problem with the film is it is not Thodasa Pyaar, Thodasa Magic. In a literal translation, it is Little Love Little Magic. Add Little Interest. Little Imagination.
Our cinema has added a new genre to cinema- Yawn Entertainment.  Here is the latest addition.
