Loud to a fault and without purpose.  A contemporary euphemism for fun and frolic for entertainment. You have gone through the films coming from the factories of MKD and David Dhawan and resigned to the content thereof.  Now take a fresh dollop of the variety handed over by the Welcome and No Entry encouragement. There should be a time when we would dissect the content of our cinema.  Filmographers often see cinema in the context of their times and understand hidden nuances in hind sight.  For instance the world that ignored Guru Dutt now reassemble to praise. Probably Annes too will one day find his intellectual takers.  Today they would surely run to the nearest place of hiding.
What is wrong with the film? Before a single word dismissal: everything, I would believe it is the sound decibel (read noise).  The film theatres seem to be in conspiracy with ENT specialists.  There can be no other reason why the sound is so high and why every thing suffers the over board syndrome.  This surely is not fun.  Not entertainment.  Not art. Before environmentalists turn their attention to the theatres and our filmmakers we may plead for some self constraint unless that is asking for sanity from the film maker
The alleged story line is about how the naïve Happy (Akshay) with his village mate Rangeela ( Om Puri) leave the shores of the land as a prey to the village conspirators to bring back Lucky( Sonu Sood) from Australia. Lucky has got the entire community a bad name for his involvement with crime in Australia.  Back home had is hoping that he would be back. On Mission Retrieval the two guys reach Egypt by fault, run into a Law student  Sonia( Katrina)  proceed to Australia and straight way try talking Lucky to bid adieu  to his world of guns and gals and return to dharti maa- (read Punjab). Rejected they stay on with the help of local flower seller (Kiron Kher) who is incidentally the mother of Sonia.  She is threatened by the impending visit of her daughter with her fiancé Puneet (Ranvir Shorey) as they believe she is rich while she actually sells flowers.
Happy takes over form  Lucky and in a series of howlers manages to win over Lucky’s team of Yashpal Sharma, Sudashnu Pandey, Kamal chopra and Neha Dhupiya.  Finally in a climax that is supposedly comical Sonia ends up taking her seven steps with Happy instead of Puneet and thus gets on the road of matrimony while Puneet leaves in grace.
Not every film answers the stance of logic and more so when a film is confessedly aimed at the b.o. and from Bollywood.  What however the film maker looses on is the understanding that there is a sanity within the defined premises and here you must stick to the logic of your creation. .  Entertainment is not a no holds bar statement.  IN fact a film maker who bites a comedy bites  does so at a higher risk rate .  This time round the film maker sadly fails to deliver.  The package is too loud in more than one sense of the term.
Credit must go to the cast for taking their job seriously.  Every one performs with enthusiasm and vigour.  Most interestingly even Kiran Kher delivers without going over board  which she sometimes tends to. The film surely revolves round Akshay Kumar and the film show cases that he has surely come of age.  He stands above the script and delivers in a manner akin to the Bachchan of the eighties. The script does not inhibit him. He takes it on and shows a tremendous sense of timing. Physically agile ,mentally alert, emotionally balanced, he shows all that is required of a reel life hero. The film is his all the way and he is not just the saving grace.  He is reason enough to see the film  He is king.
