Andhracafe.com- A former Kashmiri Militant and counter insurgent who surrendered to security forces have won the Padma Shri 2010 for public Service. Ghulam Mohammed Mir who is widely known by nickname Muma Kana runs a band saw business in Magam in Central Kashmir’s Budgam District.
Mir was a counter insurgent who ran a illegal private militia in Central Kashmir before surrendering himself to the security forces. The cases of extortion and attempted murder are still pending on him. He was considered to be a major asset alongside insurgents like Kuka Parray, Javed Shah and Naba Azad for Security establishment in the peak years of militancy.
It took several days for the J&K government to trace the Padma Shri awardee. The Chief Minister of J&K Omar Abdullah says his government might not have recommended him. How can the Government give the prestigious Padma Award to a Militant and have criminal background whose cases are still pending at the Court.
